Free TB skin tests to be offered at Okkodo High

Free tuberculosis skin tests will be offered from 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. March 16 to 17 at Okkodo High School in Dededo.

A student at the school was diagnosed with tuberculosis. The student has been released from school and won't be allowed to return until he receives medical clearance, according to the department.

And those who were in close contact with the student must take a TB skin test.

Okkodo students and staff who are required to have a TB skin test, but fail to do so, won't be allowed in school until they comply, according to the department.

Symptoms of the disease include: a bad cough that lasts more than two weeks, coughing up bloody sputum, weakness or fatigue, chills, weight loss, loss of appertite, fever and night sweats, according to Public Health. If those symptoms show, see a doctor.

Tuberculosis can be transmitted through coughing, sneezing, speaking, or singing according to the department.
