If you have the printed abstract book from any of these early conferences, we'd be grateful if you would consider loaning or donating them to us so that we can restore and make them available to the world.15th Annual Conference of the British HIV Associations - 1-3 April 2009, Liverpool, UKhttp://www.aegis.org/conferences/bhiva/2009Loading of the 15th Annual Conference of the British HIV Associations abstracts have been initiated. We're still missing the first through the sixth British HIV Association conferences. If you have the printed abstract book from any of these early conferences, we'd be grateful if you would consider loaning or donating them to us so that we can restore and make them available to the world.Audit in progressAn audit of the International AIDS Conference abstracts has been initiated, checking each abstract against the printed abstract book. Tables and graphics which are omitted from the NLM abstract database are being restored. Given the size of this database, and our limited staff, this is a tremendous undertaking, and it unfortunately will be a work in progress for some time.RelocationAs many of you are aware, we lost our funding for 2009. This forced us to make some drastic changes, which we were initially fearful would not work. We began by giving up our office space in the Sycamore Business Park, and we installed a virtual private network so that staff could work from their homes. The bottom line is that we've saved about $35,000 in annual operating costs, and we've lowered our carbon-footprint on the environment in the process. Furthermore, instead of laying off staff, we cut two of our staff back to half-time, saving us another $30,000.We've applied for new funding for 2010, but until it's approved, we're financially still in need of assistance from our users. We know that we're still in a recession and everyone is hurting from it; consequently, we're not asking for big amounts of money from our users. What we're asking for is a $5.00 contribution from each of our users. More than 18 million people utilized AEGiS in 2007, and we only need to raise $300,000 to maintain AEGiS for another year. The question is: "Is AEGiS worth $5.00 to you?" AEGiS is both a source of new and historical information. There is no other web site on the planet with as comprehensive a history of the pandemic as AEGiS, so please consider helping to save it for future generations.
